Conic Approximation with Provable Guarantee for Traffic Signal Offset Optimization
We consider the offset optimization problem that coordinates the offsets of signalized intersections to reduce vehicle queues in large-scale signalized traffic networks. We adopt a recent approach that transforms the offset optimization problem into a complex-valued quadratically-constrained quadratic program (QCQP). Using the special structure of the QCQP, we provide a π/4-approximation algori...

: 1 if y < 1; y if 1 6 y 6 1; 1 if y > 1: It is easily seen that the results will be very similar to the results given in [3] if jy0j < 1. The problem is different, however, if jy0j > 1. In this paper, we restrict ourselves to single-output systems. For such systems, rather complete results can be given. The multi-output case is more involved. For this, we refer to [2], [3] (for the case withou...
متن کاملMiarkovian Decision Control for Traffic Signal Systems
Setting signals at intersections to minimize the queue length and vehicle delay time is a key goal in traffic management. In this paper, a new control strategy for a signalized traffic intersection is developed by applying Markovian decision control theory. Statistical analysis of simulation results with different arrival rates indicate the excellent potential of this approach.
متن کاملPerformance Measures for Arterial Traffic Signal Systems
This project was conducted to investigate new concepts, new tools and emerging technologies directed at enhancing traffic operations and safety on signalized urban arterials that operate under saturated conditions. McFarland Boulevard, a six-lane urban arterial running north-south through Tuscaloosa, AL served as the research focus and test bed for the project. There are nine urban intersection...
متن کاملPumping approximately integrable systems
Weak perturbations can drive an interacting many-particle system far from its initial equilibrium state if one is able to pump into degrees of freedom approximately protected by conservation laws. This concept has for example been used to realize Bose-Einstein condensates of photons, magnons and excitons. Integrable quantum systems, like the one-dimensional Heisenberg model, are characterized b...
